Job description

The position is located within the Department for Education in the Fine Arts Programme and specifically in the 2D area where painting, drawing, and printmaking are included.

Together with your colleagues in the 2D area, you are expected to take responsibility for planning, developing and conducting teaching through your own courses, workshops, seminars and in supervision, as well as contributing to joint teaching at the institution.

As a Senior Lecturer in the 2D area, you are expected to create context and content based on the methods and discussions that exist in the subject field today and develop new ones in dialogue with colleagues and the surrounding society. Our wish from the school is that you, with solid knowledge in painting and drawing, will contribute to the development of the medium with an interest in hybrid methods and related fields of knowledge.

You will work with art students with different specialisations and interests at both BA and MA level and be responsible for one of the 2D area's joint technical workshops. Teaching takes place in various groups but also includes individual supervision and supervision linked to exhibitions and other public situations. The position includes participation in the institution´s joint operations and some administrative work.

Qualifications

Qualified as a Senior Lecturer in artistic activities are:

• A person who has obtained a practice-based doctoral degree in fine art or possess equivalent knowledge/artistic skills.
• A person who has demonstrated pedagogical skills.
• A person who has demonstrated artistic expertise or have some other professional expertise that is significant with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment.

The Royal Institute of art pays particular attention to artistic skills. Artistic ability is demonstrated by well-documented independent artistic activity and a qualified artistic practice of one's own.

The assessment of pedagogical skills shall be given the same level of attention as the assessment of other conditions for qualification. The institute takes particular account of a high degree of pedagogical expertise.

The pedagogical skills include:

• A good ability to develop and implement high quality education at first and second cycle level.
• Good ability to stimulate and develop student learning.
• Having completed a higher education pedagogical training or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

The concept of pedagogical skills also includes pedagogical engagement.

Assessment criteria

The applicant must:
- Be a practising artist with a broad, solid and up-to-date knowledge of the subject field, and be deeply engaged in the methods and discourses of painting and drawing.

- Demonstrate an up-to-date and ongoing engagement with the field of contemporary art and its debates.

- Demonstrate a good ability to stimulate and develop student learning.

- Demonstrate administrative skills and a good planning ability.

- Demonstrate proficiency in English in both speech and writing.

Advantageous:
- To demonstrate experience of different forms of teaching such as group teaching, individual tutorials, seminars and practical workshops.

- To demonstrate knowledge and experience of self-organising initiatives and exhibition creation.

- To demonstrate knowledge and commitment to new techniques, materials and methods of image making.

- To demonstrate the ability to bridge practical, material and technical knowledge of painting and drawing and their related theory and research.

- To demonstrate a commitment to and demonstrable experience of equality, diversity and inclusion work.

- To demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues and respond to the needs of students with a wide range of abilities and experiences.

• Description of your pedagogical approach and examples of a relevant course structure (max 2 A4, 12 pt).
• Image-based portfolio in digital form presenting 4-6 artistic works (max 20 A4).
• Three references with contact details, at least one of which confirms the applicant's pedagogical expertise.

The position

This is a five-year, part-time contract of 50%, based on artistic merit (the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, 4th chap. 10§). The Royal Institute of Art may renew the contract for a further period of up to five years without additional competition. The position includes participation in the institute´s joint operations and some administrative work. At The Royal Institute of Art, we apply a working time agreement that includes time for education, research, departmental work and own artistic and pedagogical development. The main part of the work tasks takes place directly at the institute´s location.
