Junior Lecturer in curating architecture - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

We are looking for a Junior Lecturer for our course Decolonizing Architecture

Decolonizing Architecture at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm is a one-year research-based course that uses the term decolonization as a critical position and conceptual frame for an architectural and artistic research practice engaged in social and political struggles. Within the frame of the course, we ask if architecture functions as a colonial power, how can we then re-imagine new tools or modes of subversion?

Every year the course focus on a specific thematic. In the academic year 23/24 the participants of the DAAS course will be asked to explore the possibilities of rural commons. The specific collective site of investigation is a four-hectare plot of land located in Diso in the south of Italy, co-owned by a group of artists, curators, designers, and researchers interested in exploring collective forms of inhabitation and agroforestry. The collective site functions as the point of departure for further explorations during the year.

Job description

The main focus of the position is to participate in the planning and teaching in the advanced course Decolonising architecture. The position also includes participation in the Institute’s common work, such as contributing to the joint planning of the study programme, participating on the Institute’s boards, committees and developing the Institute’s national and international network. Teaching and administrative tasks will take up approx. 2 days per week.

Qualifications and Assessment Criteria

 The applicant must have:

• Demonstrated curatorial, artistic and pedagogical skills in architecture or/and fine art.
• A degree from an artistic or architectural university programme or other relevant university studies, or the equivalent competence

For this position Royal Institute of Art places particularly strong emphasis on curatorial practices in art and architecture.


Teaching expertise involves:

• An excellent ability to develop and implement teaching of a high quality at basic and advanced level
• An excellent ability to develop collaborations and run independent projects,
• Excellent competence to mediate with local communities, especially in relation to the thematics of the course for the academic year 2023-2024
• An excellent ability to coordinate and communicate with the students with regards to the thematics chosen for the course in the academic year 23-24
• An excellent ability to stimulate and develop student learning and coordinate process-oriented research
• Excellent administrative skills and excellent planning and collaborative skills 

• Extensive, solid and up-to-date knowledge of the application of artistic methods and approaches within the subject area of curating art and architecture

• The position requires good knowledge of English. 


The Position


This is a 50% one-year contract. The position includes participating in the Institute’s common work and some administrative work. 20% of the 50% employment may be devoted to artistic development work.
